If something has set your dog’s stomach off, it’s a bad day for everyone. Fortunately, there are a few foods that can settle your pup’s digestive system and ease them back into their regular diet. Even better, they are foods you probably already have in your cupboard (or that are easily found at the grocery store)! Read on for four dog upset stomach remedies that can help your dog recover from vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach cramps.

🐶Four Dog Upset Stomach Remedies

🦴 Bone broth

If your pup is having trouble keeping solid food down, try bone broth. It’s a great source of nutrients, and its flavour can encourage dogs to try to eat if their appetite is low. Bone broth also helps your dog take in liquids and prevents dehydration.

You can make your own bone broth by cooking animal bones in a pot or slow cooker for a few hours. Strain it, let it cool, then remove the hardened fat from the top layer. (You can refrigerate or freeze this to use in your own cooking!) Give your dog broth on its own, or mix it with the other foods on this list.

If you don’t want to make your own broth, look for dog-safe bone broth at your local pet store. Avoid broths with seasoning or other additions that could upset your dog’s stomach.

🍗 Shredded chicken

Shredded chicken is a good source of protein but also mild enough to give to dogs with an upset stomach. It’s also a great incentive to try for a dog with a reduced appetite.

Keep the preparation simple: Just poach or steam chicken pieces without adding any salt, seasonings, or cooking fats. Then shred the cooked chicken with a fork. You can store leftover chicken in your fridge for up to three to four days.

🎃 Pumpkin and Sweet Potato

These orange delicacies are great stomach-soothing food for under-the-weather pups! Pumpkin is a great source of fibre, which can help regulate digestion. It’s also full of nutrients that boost your dog’s health while they’re recovering.

You can buy unseasoned pumpkin puree in cans. Either give a tablespoon or two to your dog on its own, or mix it with another food on this list.

Sweet potato is one of the best dog upset stomach remedies! Like pumpkin, it’s high in fibre and rich in nutrients like vitamin A and beta carotene.

It’s always a good idea to check with your vet if your dog has any unusual symptoms, including mild stomach problems. If the symptoms are more serious or your dog is dehydrated, get medical attention.
